Moose expert should move on

I read an article about moose studies by Joseph Friedrichs in the Northern Wilds publication.

I see that Glenn D. DelGiudice, the moose expert, plans to kill another 50 or so moose again this spring.

I don’t understand how killing off the moose calves each year can create a bigger herd?

There is a similar situation in Africa with the rhinos there, but the decline in their numbers is the result of over hunting by the natives and poachers. The game wardens try to stop that and create more rhinos.

But they don’t kill off the rhino calves each year to do this. They think like a cattle farmer—more calves, bigger herd. (Duh.)

The moose expert admits that most of the collared calves will die. What can you possibly learn from a dead moose calf?

It doesn’t take too many brains to see that it starved to death or was killed by predators after the cow moose left the calf.

The cow moose will not accept her calf after the moose expert handles it and puts that stinking collar on it. Moose can smell a man a mile away, so think how that collar must smell to her when her calf comes to nurse.

Hey—moose expert try to get a job making (omelets) somewhere out of Minnesota.
