Coming off an eighth-place finish in the recent 300- mile John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, Hovland musher Frank Moe didn’t know how his dogs would respond in the Mid-Minnesota sled dog races.
Turns out his dogs were more than ready to run the 30-mile short distance race, and at the end of the day both he and his wife Sherri had placed first in their respective events.
Sherri raced in the six-dog event and Frank ran a team in the eight-dog field.
The races were held Saturday, February 9, starting in Outing and finishing in Remer, Minnesota.
“Our dog team recovered nicely,” said Frank. “Sherri won the six-dog race, in her first race in four years! And I placed first in the eight-dog race. It used to be our home race when we lived over near Bemidji. It’s always a nice homecoming there,” he said.
This won’t be the last race of the season for the Moes.
“We’re bringing two teams to Ely next weekend and then finishing up again at the Copper Dog in Calumet, Michigan on March 1-3,” said Frank.
