Celebrate National Poetry Month with COMPAS Teaching Artist and Minnesota Poet May Lee-Yang by picking up one of her Take & Write Poetry Workbook kits from the Grand Marais Public Library starting April 1. Each kit includes a booklet of poetry writing exercises designed specifically for new poets. Each writing exercise will include an example poem, some directions on how you can write your own poem, and space to write. This is an all-ages program (Kindergarteners and 1st graders may need extra assistance). Please note that the kits are first come, first served while supplies last. No library card is needed to participate.
May Lee-Yang is an award-winning playwright, poet, prose writer, and performance artist. Twin Cities Metro Magazine said she was “on the way to becoming one of the most powerful and colorful voices in local theater.” Her theater-based works have been presented in venues such as the National Asian American Theater Festivals in Los Angeles and Philadelphia, Intermedia Arts, and the Center for Hmong Arts and Talent (CHAT). Said Library Director Amanda St. John, “May Lee-Yang helps writers access inspiration—not wait for it to make a debut but get in touch right now. If you’ve been waiting for the muse to no avail, come for one of these kits.”
This program, sponsored by Arrowhead Library System, was funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
