Mn. Deer Hunters Association banquet is May 17

Minnesota Deer Hunters Association’s Arrowhead Chapter is hosting its banquet on May 17 at the American Legion in Grand Marais. The annual event will feature auctions, raffles and games, and is designed for not only deer hunters but wildlife enthusiasts and all outdoorminded men and women.

The event will raise funds that the chapter will use to further its mission of “Working for tomorrow’s wildlife and hunters today.” Chapter goals over the next year include financial support of youth outdoor education through Forkhorn Camp sponsorships and very importantly—MDHA and the Arrowhead Chapter speak for the moose.

MDHA accomplishments include hosting the 2007 Large Mammal Conference; helping to initiate legislation that resulted in a dedicated moose biologist and formation of the Minnesota Moose Advisory Council; actively lobbying for tribal and U of M grants to research moose health and survival; annual donation of a gun (since 2009) to be used as incentive drawing prize successful moose hunters who provide a kit of tissue/organ samples for moose research; and acting as fiscal agent and applicant for LSOHC Moose habitat enhancement grant of $960,000 to enhance thousands of acres of moose habitat on public lands in the Arrowhead.

Tickets to the banquet are available on a first-come first-serve basis, as space is limited. Call Joe Cannella at (800) 450- DEER for tickets or more information.
