K-12 Assistant Principal and Activities Director of Cook County High School, Mitch Dorr, announced that he will be leaving his position on November 1. He announced to his fellow staff, “After much thought and prayer, I have decided to take the principal position at Saint John the Baptist Catholic School in Jordan, Minnesota. After 24 years at Cook County Schools and 46 years living in Grand Marais, it is now time for me to explore other pursuits.”
A 1993 Cook County High School graduate, Dorr went on to teach and coach both boys’ and girls’ basketball, as well as football. A strong advocate for sports programing, today his own two sons play for the CCHS football team. Originally hired as a social studies teacher; Mr. Dorr also taught Senior Economics and Government, 9th and 10th Grade U.S. History, a year of Industrial Arts and a College in the Schools Psychology course.
Dorr has been the Activities Director for five years and the Assistant Principal for the last four years. When hired into his current position, he stated, “My goal is to stay as close as I can to student learning. I love working with kids. My passion for education has always been centered around the kids of Cook County.” He has gone on to organize and develop a work study program and has had close ties with many student-centered initiatives.
Mitch explained, “It has been a blessing to work with the many talented people we have here at Cook County Schools.” His positive, friendly presence will be missed, and he is wished nothing but success in his future pursuits.
Mitch’s wife, Sharon, and the kids will finish the school year here and Mitch added, “My heart will continue to bleed blue and white, and I wish all of you the very best in all you pursue. May you be blessed and fulfilled always.”
