Mitch Dorr submits resignation as CCHS football coach

Much of Mitch Dorr’s life has revolved around sports, and no sport more than football. But after 20 years of coaching football, seven years as an assistant and 13 years as head coach, Mitch has announced that he is stepping down as head football coach of the CCHS Vikings.

This is the second head-coaching job Mr. Dorr has relinquished since moving from his teaching position mid-year into administration at I.S.D. 166 as a principal. At the conclusion of this year’s boys’ basketball season he also announced he was stepping aside from that program as well.

In his letter to the school board Mr. Dorr wrote, “In 1986, I started my football career as a ball boy for Lyle Anderson at practices and on the sidelines during games with his youngest son, Erik. After playing for Lyle Anderson, he became a lifelong mentor to me and I was blessed to coach for him upon my arrival as a new teacher in 1998.

“After 20 years of coaching on the most beautiful field in all of Minnesota, 13 of them as the head coach, I am stepping down as the head football coach at Cook County Schools.

“It has been my honor to work with some of the most talented and gifted student athletes a coach could possibly ask for. The current group of young men are some of the finest Cook County has ever produced and their parents are some of the most supportive people I have ever worked with as an educator. I look forward to following their journey this coming season as both a fan and parent.”

His letter, which was submitted at the April 19 school board meeting, concluded with this short soliloquy.

“I want to take this moment to thank the many great coaches I have had the honor to work with here at Cook County. They do a tremendous job working with our youth and their role in our school community is irreplaceable.

“Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to impact and form many life lasting relationships.” Sincerely, Mitch Dorr.
