A 2007 Chevy Silverado pickup left the roadway near Cascade River State Park at about 3 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. The driver, Anders Zimmer, 19, was traveling toward Grand Marais when he said he met a semi truck that crossed the centerline, causing him to swerve and go into the ditch.
Lutsen First Responders, the Lutsen Fire Department and the Cook County Ambulance all responded. Zimmer and his passenger, Alexis Eliasen, 19, Grand Marais were transported to Cook County North Shore Hospital. They were treated and released.
The Minnesota State Patrol investigated and stopped a suspect vehicle, but there was no conclusive evidence against the truck driver and no citation was issued.
The pickup truck, which was borrowed to haul a piece of machinery, suffered significant damage and was likely totaled.
