Minneapolis- based nonprofit news site MinnPost.com is spending a year in conversation with young people in rural communities all over the state. The goal is to understand the vast and diverse range of issues young people face in the Arrowhead.

MinnPost reporter Jeff Severns Guntzel will be at Cook County Higher Education’s North Shore Campus in Grand Marais on Thursday, March 17 at 3:30 p.m. to have a conversation with young people and learn what he can learn. If you are between the ages of 17 and 25, you are invited to talk about your experiences, hopes, and plans — and eat some free food!

Guntzel is a reporter for MinnPost whose journalism career includes senior editor at Utne Reader, contributor to the Minnesota Independent, and staff writer for Village Voice Media to cover cultural and political topics in the Twin Cities. He has reported from the Middle East and points all over the United States as a staff writer for the National Catholic Reporter and as a contributing editor at Punk Planet magazine. He has appeared on several national news programs, including “News Hour with Jim Lehrer.”

Before turning to journalism, he spent years doing humanitarian work in pre-war Iraq and in 2003 co-founded Electronic Iraq (electroniciraq.net/), a website to document the Iraqi experience of war.

MinnPost (www.minnpost.com) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan enterprise whose mission is to provide high-quality journalism for news-intense people who care about Minnesota.
