The reason history is so important to us is that it allows people to remember, learn, and understand from what has already happened.
You can look throughout our history and see when lessons were not learned and things were unfortunately repeated.
So when we look toward moving forward with the Line 3 project, we all hope that there are no protests. It would be great if there were not any violent or disruptive interactions started by people opposed to this project.
If we look at recent history, we unfortunately have reason to be concerned that this will not be the case.
Regardless of what opponents do or threaten in their efforts to stop construction, it does not give us the excuse to act in a similar way.
We are better than that and need to continue to be. Even with this project being finally approved, we need to respect those who disagree. It is unfortunate that they don’t see the value in this project, as it is rather clear and apparent. Over four thousand jobs, two billion plus dollars coming to our state, and a new safe pipeline to transport valuable fuel.
Simply put, we need to respect each other. So much of this past year has been divisive and vile. We all need to move forward and be better than that.
This project will start, and Minnesota will be better off for it. We need to stand ready and support this construction as it will likely see opposition, but we will do so the right way, with respect.
