Although this was the Minnesota State Log Rolling Championships, this could well have qualified as the Illinois state logrolling championships because three Magnone siblings from Wauconda, Illinois swept several state titles.

First up was U7 world champion Libby Magnone of Wauconda. Libby and North Shore Roller Taylor Everson battled for first place with Libby coming out on top in an exciting match. Another young local roller, Ali Duclos of Lutsen, finished third.

In the boys’ U-10 division Dominic Magnone beat Jacob Diehart of Somerset, Wisconsin for first place. Tanner Collman of Cromwell, Minnesota finished third.

Brandi Collman, Tanner’s sister, finished first in the U-10 girls’ division. Brandi battled North Shore Roller Reilly Goettl for first place. Both girls showed off great rolling skills in this match.

Another North Shore roller, Charlotte Waver placed third to earn one of the hand-made awards crafted by Peter Henrikson of Grand Marais.

Luke Johnson was a bit too quick on this log, rolling the fleet-footed Dominic Magnone into the drink. Johnson finished second in the U-13 boy’s division of the Minnesota State Championships.

In maybe the most exciting match of the day, North Shore Roller Sophie Eliasen was up two falls to none over Emma Magnone in the U-13 girls’ championship match. Both girls showed off amazing skills of balance, quick feet and endurance on the logs, but Emma’s tournament experience prevailed and she came back to win the championship 3-2.

Anna Davenport of Hudson, Wisconsin beat Robin Henrikson of the North Shore Rollers to finish in third place in the toughest, deepest division of the day.

Dominic Wilson and best friend Luke Johnson battled for the U-13 boys’ title with Wilson taking the match 3 falls to 1. The two North Shore Rollers put on a good show for the fans in their friendly but spirited battle.

Two professional rollers, Elie Devenport and Jessica Berg-Collman and semipro Wellesley Howard- Larsen did a demonstration at the tournament’s end with Davenport coming out on top in a bit of friendly competition between the three young ladies.
