The Grand Marais Public Library will present Singing Stories at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 12 featuring Alisa Magallón, a teaching artist with the Minnesota Opera.
The Minnesota Opera is one of the nation’s largest and most distinguished opera companies in the country, admired as an innovative creator of compelling operas, programs and new works. The Minnesota Opera is hitting the road with the production of The Magic Flute at the DECC Symphony Hall in Duluth and a tour of the Arrowhead Library System to bring opera to the youngest preschool story-time participants.
Magallón, will read and sing a children’s picture book with an opera theme, then present an opera-based craft such as a puppet or items that may be used as a costume for budding opera singers. She also brings an educational twist to the program, sharing tips with parents and caregivers on how to bring books to life with music and song to increase early literacy and create a love of both music and reading.
Magallón has performed as a young artist with Chicago Opera Theater, given concerts in Chicago’s famed Jay Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park, performed in the Teatro Piccinni in Bari, Italy, and has given recitals in the capital city of La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. She is excited to share her love, talent, and understanding of opera with preschoolers at our area libraries
This program, sponsored by Arrowhead Library System, was funded in part or in whole with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. For more information contact the library at (218) 387-1140.
