Minnesota Farmers Union presents the 17th annual Minnesota Cooks™ Summer Celebration at the State Fair

The Northshore will be well represented at the Minnesota Cooks celebration at the Minnesota State Fair.

One of the six hourly presentations on Sunday, August 25, will feature Chef Chris Homyak of Lutsen Resort, Chuck Corliss of North Shore Winery and Sawtooth Mountain Cider House, who will be paired with John Jacobson of Pine Tree Apple Orchard. He will prepare: Cider Braised Pulled Pork Sandwich.

They will be cooking from noon to 1 p.m. at the Minnesota Cooks stage in Dan Patch Park, just south of the grandstand.

The Minnesota CooksTM program (www.minnesotacooks.org) at the State Fair will once again highlight the partnerships between chefs/cooks and farmers from around the state for a day of entertaining cooking demonstrations, hot topic discussions, and free samples of farm-fresh cuisine.

2019 marks the seventeenth year for the event that includes a wide mix of restaurants and farm—large and small, urban and rural, established and brand new— demonstrating the rich diversity that makes up our state’s vibrant food scene.

Beginning at 10 a.m. there will be six hourly presentations throughout the day by talented chefs and cooks.

Minnesota Cooks is the ultimate summer celebration of our state’s bounty and the people who bring good food to life: farmers, chefs, and cooks. Chefs and cooks will create dishes using ingredients supplied by local farmers.

As they prepare their creations, emcee and Emmy winner, Mary Lahammer of Twin Cities Public Television, and emcees Stephanie Hansen and Stephanie March of 107.1 Weekly Dish, will engage the chefs and a taster panel of farmers and local food enthusiasts in meaningful discussions about our state’s food system. At the end of each demonstration, the panel, as well as fairgoers, will sample the farm-fresh fare.

In addition to this year’s selected farmers, the taster panels will also feature local media, political, and arts personalities. Journalists and bloggers are welcome to stop by the Minnesota Cooks event for personal interviews with the hosts, chefs, farmers, and tasters.

Minnesota Cooks is presented by Minnesota Farmers Union with significant support from Minnesota Grown, Farmers Union Insurance Agency, and Farmers Union Industries.
