Statement from Cook County DFL Chair, Bryan Hansel:
“When the pandemic started, the leaders in the Minnesota DFL immediately recognized the challenges of maintaining our democracy while protecting the safety of our community. To that end, the DFL moved all our conventions, which are large gatherings, to virtual conventions.
I just finished voting in the virtual Minnesota DFL Senate District 3 convention. The process was simple and went smoothly. I’m proud of the DFL and our volunteers for making sure all our delegates retained their votes and voices in our endorsement process. It’s a shining example of retaining our democratic rights during the pandemic. Our 51 Cook County delegates and alternates have until May 4th to vote in the SD3 convention.
The Minnesota Legislature should understand their responsibility and pass universal vote-by-mail legislation before this fall’s general election. Vote-by-mail will protect the democratic process in Minnesota during the pandemic and ensure that all Minnesotans can vote without fear of infection. We know that vote-by-mail works because most of us in Cook County vote by mail, and we have the highest turnout in the state. We must ensure that our constitutional right to vote is protected and make sure that all eligible Minnesotans can exercise their right to vote without fear.
During the pandemic, please, stay safe and seek refuge in compassion and truth.”
About the Cook County DFL
The Cook County DFL supports and works to enact the ideals and principles of the Democratic Party and strives to sustain the foundations in our Party’s grassroots history. We believe that every American and Minnesotan, regardless of their background or other immutable traits, has a right to stable employment with fair wages, a proper education, raising and providing for a family, accessing affordable healthcare, living in a safe community, having a clean environment, and retiring with dignity and security. During our Party’s history, much has been accomplished, and we in the Cook County DFL join with the DFL Party in continuing to work for a better Minnesota and nation, tomorrow and beyond.
