Mineral Center Road to be paved

Pending review and approval of the contract from the county attorney, Northland Constructors of Duluth, LLC was awarded the job to pave CSAH 17 at a bid of $1,496,000.

Cook County commissioners approved the bid at their August 27 meeting.

Cook County Highway Engineer Krysten Foster told commissioners the county received two bids to pave 3.9 miles of Mineral Center Road. KGM Contractors, Inc. bid $1,593,104.90, which was 18.69 percent over the engineer’s estimate, with Northland the low bidder at 11.46 percent higher than the engineer’s estimate.

Bids came in higher than expected, said Foster, who cited two factors, the cost for the type of oil used for this specific blacktop mix is costly this year and the cost to mobilize equipment is higher than estimated.

The project will be funded though Cook County’s Transportation Sales Tax bond funds balance.

Weather permitting paving should be completed in late-September or early-October.
