Miller and a host of Vikings are near the top of the area’s prep statistical leaders

When the Duluth News Tribune put out its baseball prep honor roll last week, it wasn’t too surprising to find a half dozen or so of the 12-1 Vikings on it. But what was surprising was to find Andrew Miller’s name peppered throughout the stats. It’s been obvious to anyone following the team’s success that Andrew has been having a good season, but just how good is now evident by his stats.

Andrew hasn’t just been dominant on the mound, he’s also having a pretty fair season swinging the bat and running the bases.

Through 13 games Miller posted a .600 batting average, second in Northeastern Minnesota behind Duluth Marshall’s Charlie Kleinschmidt’s .611 batting average.

Dillon Sjogren has the seventh-highest average at .486.

Andrew ranks fourth in hits, recording 21 so far. The leader is Peter Hansen of Marshall. Sjogren was also listed on the leader board with 17 hits.

With 18 runs driven in, Miller ranks third behind Marshall’s Hansen, who co-leads the leader board with Esko’s Noah Furcht, both of whom have 19 runs.

Andrew is tied for fifth in RBIs with 16. James LeGarde of Esko tops the list with 23.

The shifty, fleet-footed Miller tops the stolen base list with 21, five ahead of Eveleth’s Alec Gritzmcher’s 16. Sjogren also has 16, Levi Sheils 13, Josh Prom 12, and Conner Somnis with 10, are all in the top 15.

Miller is second in pitching wins with four. Adam Dorr has three and Josh Prom also has three.

Adam Dorr has an ERA of 0.36, fourth on the list. Tristen Bockovich has an ERA of 1.75.

No surprise here, but the hard-throwing lefty leads the strikeout list by a lot. Miller has 66 strikeouts compared to Ben Pederson of Marshall, who has recorded 50 for the year.

Tristen Bockovich sits eighth on that list with 26 strikeouts.
