The first game featured Cook County taking on Proctor White which resulted in a loss by a score of 11-1. The lone goal was scored by Eli Swanson on assists by Pat Pierre and Ryan Christianson.
The second game of the day was against Duluth Heights, which saw the Cook County team fall 8-3. Pat Pierre figured into the scoring of all three goals. Pat had two goals in the game with assists by Cy Oberholtzer and John Pierre on the first goal and a single assist on the second goal by Jacob Carpenter. Katie Carpenter nearly missed her first goal of the year early in the third period when she was stopped in the crease by a great save from the Duluth goalie.
Sunday’s game featured a contest against rival Silver Bay. The exciting first period ended in a 1-1 tie. The action was mostly in the Silver Bay end of the rink but Cook County was able to muster the one goal, which was scored by Eli Swanson with assists by Ryan Christianson and Andrew Hallberg.
The second period was also a close contest with the score being 2-1 at the end of the period. Ryan Christianson made quite a few phenomenal plays from his defensive position to help keep the puck out of the net. In the third period Silver Bay wore down Cook County and eventually won by a final score of 7-2. Cook County’s only third period goal was scored by Eli Swanson on assists from Pat Pierre and CJ Luehring.
The Cook County Mite 2 team is comprised of players from Lutsen, Grand Marais, Hovland, and Grand Portage.
These were the last Mite games for CJ Luehring and Pat Pierre who will be playing for the North Shore Squirt Team next season. Pat Pierre has also been selected to play on an “AAA” team from Chisholm during the summer, where he will be traveling around the state and playing in tournaments against the top talent in the state.
