Four Cook County Middle School students recently had the chance to demonstrate their history knowledge at the Minnesota Regional History Bee at the NOVA Classical Academy in St. Paul on April 2. They represented Cook County well in the challenging competition.
Each school can nominate up to four students in 6-8th grades to take a qualifying exam for the Minneapolis Regional History Bee. Teachers select students from those who are interested in giving it a try.
The four Cook County Middle School students who had test scores high enough to qualify for the Minneapolis Regional History Bee were Kestrel Pollock, Adam Dorr, Jacob Dorr and Emma Gesch.
Jacob Dorr was one of 39 sixth-grade students with a high enough score to qualify. Kestrel, Adam, and Emma were three of the 79 eighth-graders with scores high enough to qualify.
They faced students from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, and South Dakota at this regional competition.
Students compete in three preliminary rounds that have 30 questions each. Students use a buzzer system to answer questions and can cut off the moderator at any time to answer the question, so speedy replies are important. Students earned bonus points if they answered eight questions in a round.
At the competition, both Kestrel Pollock and Adam Dorr qualified to compete at that National History Bee in Chicago, Illinois in June. Kestrel finished ninth overall and Adam finished in the final four.
Congratulations to all of the History Bee competitors!
