The Cook County Middle School Knowledge Bowl teams have finished a great season of competition with Team 2 placing 9th and Team 1 placing 11th out of 62 teams in the district that includes schools from Moose Lake to Duluth and the Iron Range.
Middle School Knowledge Bowl Coach Dorie Carlson said the Cook County teams started practicing at the beginning of September over their lunch period twice a week and during the bus trip to Mountain Iron for completion.
The work paid off. Coach Carlson reported that Team 1 took third place in the meet on November 5 and Team 2 took a 2nd place at the meet on October 22.
Only the top 24 teams make it to the finals and both Cook County teams advanced. Coach Carlson said after five rounds of competition in the final tournament on November 18, the two Cook County teams had to face each other in the final round. “Their sportsmanship and determination are a credit to our school,” said Carlson.
The members of Team 1 were Levi Sheils, Jack Haussner, Adam Dorr, Trent Spry, Kestrel Pollock, and Tristen Bockovich.
Team 2 members were Leif Anderson, Connor Somnis, Emma Gesch, Jessica MacCudden, Lance Bartol, and Jack Peck.
“They were a great group to work with each week and showed great sportsmanship and team cooperation,” said Carlson.
