Mid-Trail Fundraiser—the bidding starts August 9

It’s that time of year for the annual Mid-Trail auction, boutique, gigantic flea market, and quilt raffle on August 9. Doors open at noon. Proceeds benefit the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department.

Collectibles, antiques, garage, items, vintage quilts, artwork, cabin décor, handcrafted textiles, Gunflint Trail experiences—you name it!—will be offered in all venues at all price points. The expanded flea market and boutique will fill the entire fire hall with hundreds of one-of-a-kind treasures donated by local businesses and residents. Here you’ll find bargains galore for a great cause.

The auction begins at 1:30 p.m., and will be called by Gunflint Trail resident and volunteer firefighter Michael Valentini, who always makes for a lively and entertaining afternoon of competitive bidding. Items up for bid include a unique wood carving of bears climbing a tree, and an original oil painting by Jan Sivertson.

The stunning quilt to be raffled this year features a Log Cabin design and consists of nearly 1,000 pieces of fabric. Again crafted by the Mid-Trail Quilters, this effort follows a long tradition of quilt making to benefit the local fire department. Raffle tickets are available at local businesses and at the event. Drawing for the quilt winner will be at the conclusion of the auction.

For an afternoon of fun, an eclectic variety of items to shop for, and cupcakes, coffee and lemonade to keep you going, drive 26 miles up the Gunflint Trail to the Schaap Community Center at fire hall #1. The Mid-Trail Property Owners Association sponsors this event in appreciation and support for all the fire and rescue volunteers who keep us safe. We hope you will join us in this vibrant community event.
