Michael Monroe wins Wisconsin songwriters contest

This summer Michael Monroe, the talented and popular local singer-songwriter was recognized at the LaCrosse, Wisconsin’s Great River Folk Festival.

Michael Monroe of Grand Marais was a winner at LaCrosse, Wisconsin’s 40-year-old Great River Folk Festival Songwriter’s Contest held Aug. 30.

The event attracts songwriters from across the U.S.

Michael Monroe won the contest from a field of 12 others who performed their songs. Monroe performed two songs, Did You Ever Think Of Me, a song about fathers who are estranged from their children, and his ever-popular song, If.

As winner, Monroe received prize money, a recording session in a Wisconsin Grammy award-winning studio, and played his tunes on the main stage that night.

Monroe is a multi-award winning singer/songwriter with an extensive musical resume. His latest CD—his 12th—is Folk Legends, a beautiful tribute to the folk heroes who inspired him.
