Local singer/songwriter Michael Monroe recently learned that he is a 2011 recipient of a fellowship grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council. This is Monroe’s third fellowship and with this support he will begin work on a new music DVD project.
Monroe already has an amazing DVD in his repertoire—Chased by the Light—an awardwinning collaboration of Michael’s music and the beautiful images of photographer Jim Brandenburg. And no North Shore music collection is complete without a CD—or three—of Michael’s wonderful music. This reporter has them all, with favorites Summer Rain, Twice in One Day, and Winter Song immediately coming to mind when thinking of the talented Monroe.
In addition to recording and working to introduce the love of performing to schoolchildren, Monroe performs intimate Log Cabin Concerts at the Pike Lake home he shares with his wife/manager Deb Mueller. Their summer schedule has been announced and the next concert will be July 30, followed by Michael’s traditional appearances at the Grand Marais Fisherman’s Picnic, with Log Cabin Concerts in the evening on August 5 -6. For information, or to make reservations, contact Deb or Michael at (218) 387-2919 or visit www.michaelmonroemusic.com.
