Beginning this weekend, Jeremy Messersmith, a Minneapolis-based singer-songwriter, will be performing shows around Minnesota in support of his record, 11 Obscenely Optimistic Songs for Ukulele. The tour is a follow up to the 50 shows he played all over the U.S. last month.
During the Minnesota tour, Jeremy will perform 30 free, open-to-the-public pop-up shows all over the state. He plays up to seven shows per day, each in a different town. The performances feature all the songs from the ukulele record in their entirety (which takes about 20 minutes). At every stop on the tour, attendees are encouraged to bring an instrument and sing along. A free songbook with all the music and lyrics, along with a full list of tour stops can be found at Jeremy’s website, jeremymessersmith.com.
On Thursday, June 1, Jeremy will perform a free concert from 5:50-6:10 p.m. at Artist’s Point before moving on to a seated, ticketed show at 7 p.m. at Voyageur Brewing Company. Tickets for the brewery concert are $15 each and are available for purchase at https:// www.jeremymessersmith.com/
11 Obscenely Optimistic Songs For Ukulele: A Micro-Folk Record For The 21st Century And Beyond, is a combination songbook and album jam-packed with ridiculous songs about kittens, world peace, flying cars and the transformative power of love. Before the audio was released, Jeremy invited fans to download the songbook and record their versions— many examples of those songs can be found on YouTube.
Fun fact: there are only 10 songs on the album, which speaks to the optimism inherent in this project.
