The Cook County Salvation Army Service Unit will once again offer its “Merry Christmas for Kids” project this holiday season. There have been significant changes in the project, but the goal is still to multiply the joy of Christmas in our community.
This year’s project will be directed toward children in Cook County 17 years of age and younger. Families wishing to participate in the project should pick up an application from Cook County Health and Human Services, the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic, a local church, the Birch Grove Community Center, or Grand Portage Human Services. Other community service agencies may either have applications or know where they can be picked up. The applications have all the necessary information for participating in the project.
Community members will also have the opportunity to multiply the joy of the season by selecting tags from Christmas trees at the North Shore Federal Credit Union locations and purchasing gifts for children, or by dropping off hats, mittens, or other winter clothing at the Sawtooth Mountain Clinic or at Arrowhead Electric in Lutsen.
Applications for participation in this year’s “Merry Christmas for Kids” project will be available Tuesday, Nov. 1, and must be returned to the project coordinator by Friday, Nov. 18 for inclusion in the project. Giving trees will be available Nov. 25 through Dec. 14. Gifts will be available for participating families to pick up at the Senior Center on December 17 from 9 a.m. until noon.
