Mentors needed at the Cook County Senior Center

The Hub/Senior Center friends and seniors will be mentoring students from Ms. Dumus’s 5th-grade class from Sawtooth Elementary throughout the year with reading, playing board games, arts, crafts, and other projects.

On Friday of this week, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. (for approximately an hour), we will be pairing up one on one with students to listen and provide support while they read. We are in need of more volunteer mentors to help with this activity and future activities. The goal is to build positive relationships with the students and help strengthen their literacy skills.

Our hope is to utilize the mentors’ experience, knowledge, and understanding and provide additional support to students in school and strengthen ties between generations.

Please call The Hub/ Senior Center if you are interested in becoming a mentor or are willing to volunteer occasionally at 387-2660. This can be a rewarding experience in developing a meaningful relationship with students in our community.
