After three years of study at Unity Village in Kansas City, Missouri, Melody Martin was ordained in a joyous ceremony on Sunday, May 22.
Conducting the ordination at his church in Minneapolis was Reverend Pat Williams of Unity Minneapolis. In his announcement of the special ceremony, Reverend Williams wrote, “What an honor it is for our spiritual community to ordain our beloved Melody Martin.”
Martin is familiar to many North Shore residents as she grew up in Grand Marais and graduated from Cook County High School in 1974.
For many years she and a friend operated a small business that worked with churches, helping congregations understand the importance of making churches accessible— not just physically, but theologically as well. Martin said they were successful at getting people to think about making changes.
In 2007, she authored a book Lessons on the Journey, sharing the spiritual experiences that led her to the ministry.
In 2013, she took a break from her divinity studies and visited her hometown and served a Sunday as guest pastor at First Congregational Church-United Church of Christ.
Melody is the daughter of Pat Martin, formerly of Grand Marais, now living in Silver Bay.
