Independent School District 166 Principal Megan Myer has accepted the superintendent position at Parkers Prairie Public Schools, Parker Prairie, Minnesota. Megan began her tenure at I.S.D. 166 in September 2018.
Myers announced earlier that she would leave the school district at the end of the year and start her new position in July 2023.
Parker’s Prairie, population 1009, is in Otter Tail County, about 20 miles north of Alexandria in West Central Minnesota, just a short distance from where Myers grew up.
Megan will replace interim Superintendent Peter E. Haapala.
Parker’s Prairie High School, grades 7-12, has approximately 270 students. The senior class graduating in 2023 has 39 students, similar to I.S.D. 166’s senior graduating class. Parkers Prairie Elementary has an enrollment of 255 students in kindergarten through sixth grade.
When Myers made her announcement on February 15, she said it was important for her to get back to her family. “There is a lot going on, and I need to be near my family,” she said. “We’re selling my husband’s business, our home, and our big boat. There’s no lake big enough for our boat where we are moving. So after we move, we will come back and visit. We have made a lot of friends here. It’s beautiful here, and I will miss living here.”
