Megan Marie Bauer Stejskal, age 33, of Lutsen, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, in Bayfield, Wisconsin.
Megan was born in Grand Rapids, MN on May 3, 1979 to John Bauer and Janeen “Bobbie” Kleffman. She grew up in Grand Rapids and graduated from Grand Rapids High School. While in high school Megan was a cheerleader, enjoyed competitive skating, played piano and was on the cross country ski team. She attended Bemidji State University and completed her education at the University of Wisconsin, Stout, with a degree in social work.
Megan lived in Eau Claire, WI for many years while married to Sam Stejskal. She worked for an adoption agency in St. Paul, MN during that time. Later she moved back to Grand Rapids, MN and worked for North Homes, Inc. and later for Children’s Mental Health. After that Megan moved to Grand Marais, where she worked for the Human Development Center (HDC) as a mental health practitioner. During the summers she worked at the Lutsen golf course. Megan volunteered her time at the local community radio station, WTIP.
Above all else, Megan loved and cherished her daughter. She loved her family and friends and touched us all with her beautiful smile, inspiring writing and her most recently found talent for photography. She was drawn to Lake Superior and loved hiking the trails around Grand Marais and often told about her wildlife encounters. Megan also loved to read, golf and enjoyed music, especially concerts in Grand Marais, Duluth and the KAXE Mississippi River Festival in Grand Rapids, MN.
Megan is survived by her daughter, Cecilia; brother, Max Bauer, Grand Rapids; her parents John Bauer and Janeen “Bobbie” Kleffman of Grand Rapids; grandmother, Shirley Kleffman of Grand Rapids her great-grandmother and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MN with Fr. Jerry Weiss officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be given to the family.
