The Cook County Coalition of Lake Associations (CCCoLA) sponsored a Lake Stewardship Workshop Friday, August 4, at the Schaap Community Center at Poplar Lake. With 10 lake groups participating, the workshop’s aim was to aid members in the creation of a Lake Management Plan or the update of an existing one.

Local resources that provided lake data included Steve Persons of the Department of Natural Resources, Karen Evens of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Amy Wilfahrt of the U.S. Forest Service and Ilena Hansel of Cook County Soil and Water.

Lake Management Plans are drafted by involving all stakeholders on the lake to identify concerns and set priorities. Next, focus areas are identified with associated objectives, goals and action items.
