Meet the Class of 2010





Shawn Robert Hackett is the son of Melissa Allman of Grand Portage. Shawn enjoys snowboarding, skateboarding, and is a member of a church youth group. After graduation he will be moving to Elk River to work in drywalling with his step-dad. In the fall he plans to start school at Anoka-Ramsey Community College. Shawn said, “Thanks to my grandparents for letting me live with them for the last two years—I love you. Thanks to Jacob McCormick for mentoring me and teaching me a lot.”

The Cook County News-Herald is proud to introduce the Cook County High School Class of 2010 to the community. Each week we’ll feature a short interview and photograph of a few of this year’s graduating seniors.






Brittany Lilienthal-Wanttie is the daughter of Andra Lilienthal of Grand Marais. Brittany participated in softball and was an intern at the Grand Marais Playhouse. She also enjoys snowboarding, hacky sac, and photography, and she is a member of “Dice Rollers Anonymous.” After graduation, she will be going to Minneapolis Community and Technical College, but first she will be interning at the Playhouse again this summer. She also hopes to take a road trip with her friends. Brittany said, “I would like to say thanks to Sue Hennessy for all that I have learned over all the years being a techie. I would like to thank my mom who has supported me through everything and thanks to my 'adoptive' mother, Gail, who makes me smile every time I see her.

Jacob Bradley Rude is the son of Brad and Sandi Rude of Grand Marais. Jacob participated in football and baseball in 9 – 12th grades and in basketball in 9 – 10th grades. He was a Middle School tutor as a junior. He was also a member of the National Honor Society in 11 – 12th grades. After graduation he plans to attend the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities to major in sports management. Jacob said, “I’d like to thank my friends, family, coaches, teachers, and members of St. John’s parish, for their support. I couldn’t have done it without you.” And he added, “Go Vikings!”

Jory Schliep is the son of Tim and Misty Schliep of Schroeder. Jory enjoys riding his dirt bike and fourwheeler, mud bogging, snowmobiling, water skipping, and being with friends. After graduation he will be going to Mesabi Technical College for welding or for diesel mechanics/ automotive. Jory said, “I will probably miss Cook County, but everyone needs to try something new someday. Thanks, everyone.” He added, “110% ready to Rev!”
