Megan Myers started her duties as I.S.D. 166 Pre-K-12 principal on Monday, Sept. 24, and two days into the job, she said she’s excited about the school, meeting and getting to know the kids and teachers, working with assistant principal Mitch Dorr and superintendent Dr. William (Bill) Crandall, and learning more about the new community her family now lives in.

“I wasn’t familiar with Cook County before learning about this job and researching the area. But something drew me here. It’s a beautiful place and a great fit for my family,” she said.

Megan grew up in Park Rapids, Minnesota and taught at New York Mills for 17 years. She mostly taught as a classroom teacher in the 4-6 grades and spent three years teaching 7-8th-grade math. She also coached volleyball for seven years.

“After teaching I went back and got my administration degree,” she said.

With her new credentials, she was hired to be the K-12 principal for the Circle of Life Academy School in White Earth, Minnesota. Circle of Life is a Bureau of Indian Education Grant school, she said, adding she was principal for 2½ years before coming to Cook County.

Megan and her husband Bryan have three children, Emmalli 13, Benelli 11, and Molly 4.

Bryan builds elevators in tall buildings. He works out of Fargo, North Dakota and travels extensively for his job.

“Molly made the transition with me here and started pre-school on the 24th,” said Myers. “Benelli, who is in sixth grade, will come in a week. Emmalli will transition here after she finishes her volleyball season. Bryan is getting our house ready to sell, and he will move here when it is on the market.”

For now, the Myers are renting a home, but they are looking to buy a house and settle into the community. When asked if she was excited about all of the changes and new challenges coming her way, Megan smiled and said, “Absolutely.”
