Please welcome Krista Olson and her family to Cook County. As the new ISD 166 Early Childhood/ECFE teacher and Preschool Screening Coordinator, Krista has a lot on her plate. Below is a bit about her and her family and some of the duties of her job.

Q- Where are you from?

“I grew up in Nisswa, Minnesota, around the Brainerd Lakes Area but have lived the past 10 years in Aitkin, Minnesota. In between, I lived in Woodbury and Brainerd.”

Q- Where did you go to college and how long have you worked in the field?

“I received my undergrad degree from Bemidji State University and my master’s in educational leadership from Minnesota State University Moorhead. I also received my K-12 Administration, Superintendent and Community Education Directors licenses from MSUM. I have worked in education since 2006, the last 7 years in administration.”

Q- What are some of your hobbies? Fishing? Hunting? Hiking? Collecting butterflies?

“My husband and I have three children that keep us busy, so my hobbies include spending time with them, going for walks, exploring the North Shore, attending their sporting events and when time permits, I love to go fishing, attempt to be crafty and enjoy a good cup of coffee.”

Q- What have you found the most interesting about Cook County?

“I’ve only been in Cook County since the beginning of August, but my favorite thing is there seems to be endless exploring opportunities. Each weekend we find a new place to explore and the natural beauty throughout the county is breath taking.”

Q- Can you tell us about your job?

“Screenings will be once a month starting in October. If you have a child that is three (3) years old, they can come to a screening. The screening is a tool to help parents track their children’s development and milestones. Every child needs to be screened before they enter Kindergarten. If you have a child in kindergarten this year and they have not been screened please contact me as soon as possible. It is required that all children are screened within 30 days of entering Kindergarten if they have not been previously screened.
