Me vs. We

As we peruse history, we often come upon times when “Me the Power” (MTP) is the prevalent mode of living. At other times we witness a revolt to this kind of existence and “We the Power” (WTP) takes over. “Me the Power” is promoted by various means: military, land grabbing, capital, politics, religion, cults, oligarchy, authoritarianism, and many others. We have seen MTP being promoted by popes, emperors. kings, dictators, gurus, wizards, presidents; any person who believes that he or she is privileged above all others to deal with the life of all others. MTP may not only reside in a person. It may also be applied to groups of people, like nations, religious institutions, political organizations, or any group gathering under some kind of dogmatic belief. The horror of “Me the Power” is that it is centered on the Self, the worship of the Self, the power of the Self.

But we are not just single “Selfs”. We are more. We are a togetherness of humans. We live a life of interdependence, both with each other and with the world in which we happen to be present. When we realize and accept our togetherness, there is hardly anything we cannot do for the good of the together. “We the Power” has accomplished more good for All than any “Me the Power” for Self.
