Sue Hakes, mayor of Grand Marais, will present Know Your City Government
at the next Women’s Business Luncheon Wednesday, November 18. Hakes believes firmly that “government belongs to those who show up,” but recognizes that participating in the public process might be new or intimidating to some, particularly women. By sharing how our city government works and giving a short tour of City Hall, Sue hopes to raise awareness about city government and encourage public participation.
Hakes is a lifelong Minnesotan and Cook County resident since 1995. She is the mayor of Grand Marais, serving a two-year term, and is also the owner/broker of Sue Hakes Realty in Grand Marais. Sue is a community volunteer, passionate about leadership, and encourages all women to participate in their communities and government.
The WBN luncheon is sponsored by Cook County Higher Education and the Northeast Entrepreneur Fund’s Women’s Business Network. All women interested in learning more about city government are invited to attend the luncheon. The presentation and lunch will be held on Wednesday, November 18 from 11:30 a.m. to1:00 p.m. at City Hall located at 15 North Broadway in Grand Marais. The luncheon will be catered by the Pie Place. The cost for the luncheon and presentation is $12.
