May was a good month for donations to I.S.D. 166





Thanks to a Lioness grant, eighth-grade students in Susan Nelson’s language arts class honed their grammar skills using IXL computer tutorials. The lesson they were working on, said Nelson, was comma use when confronted with appositives, conjunctions, independent clauses, and dependent clauses.

Any month is a good month to give to the school district, but this past May more than a dozen donations came in to I.S.D. 166 to help support a variety of summer programs and school projects.

The Grand Marais Lions Club donated $1,000 for Spanish Camp. Lake County Soil & Water sent $80 to be used to help pay for gas money for the Envirothon competition.

Five companies each donated $300 to support community education baseball. Those companies were: Fine Finish Paint, Backlund Realty, Gene’s Foods, My Sister’s Place, and Skildum & Corporation. Mike’s Holiday also donated $250 to the community education baseball program.

NorthShore Collaborative gave $2,594 for the Math, Language and Science bus.

Kids Plus donated $636 for a “Creativity and Experimentation” project with teacher Julie Viren.

Library Friends contributed $500 to the ECFE Literacy Program while the Cook County Education Foundation gave $3,727.77 for a gym projector.

Arktikos Custom Builders donated $500 to the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) program.

All in all, a lot of donations came in to help support the kids in Cook County.
