Matthew Christopher Wiermaa, 36, formerly of Tofte-Lutsen, passed away in Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 12, 2021. Matthew was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Stanley Ossian Johnson and Helia Eleanor Johnson, and his paternal grandparents Francis Richard Wiermaa and Sandra Marion Wiermaa. Matthew is survived by his mother Kay Wiermaa of St. Cloud, father Scott Wiermaa of Minneapolis, brother Adam Wiermaa of Eveleth, sister Ashley Wiermaa of Minneapolis, and brother Calvin Wiermaa of Rosemount, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, niece, and cousins.
A lover of the outdoors, Matthew was an artist, creative writer, and talented musician. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Two memorial services will be held to honor Matthew: Saturday, May 8, from 3 – 6 p.m. at the Maple Grove Community Center in Maple Grove, Minnesota, and Saturday, June 5, 8:30 a.m., at the Hansen family home on Tofte Park Road in Tofte, with a following ceremony on Oberg Mountain, concluding with visiting and refreshments at the Hansen home.
