The Cook County News-Herald publishes Matters of Record to inform the public of arraignments and dispositions of criminal cases in which the potential punishment exceeds $150 and/or 10 days in jail. It is the Cook County News-Herald’s policy that this information contains a complete record. Requests for items to be withheld will not be granted.

Lance Patrick Brown, 42, Grand Marais, pled
guilty Feb. 1 to charges of careless driving on Jan.
6, the court having dismissed additional charges
of failure to reduce speed where required and
vehicle registration violation. Sentenced March
12 to 60 days in jail, stayed one year with supervised probation and ordered to pay a $500 fine
plus court costs for a total of $590.
Cedar James Denny, 25, Grand Portage, pled
guilty Jan. 31 to felony charges of predatory
offender knowingly violates registration requirements or intentionally provides false information filed Dec. 4, the court having dismissed two
similar charges. Granted a stay of imposition of
sentence March 12 and placed on supervised
probation with conditions for three years.
Robert William Jackson, 36, Grand Portage,
pled guilty Feb. 1 to charges of careless driving on
May 11, the court having dismissed an additional
charge of reckless driving. Sentenced March 12
to 45 days in jail, stayed one year with supervised
probation and conditions, and ordered to pay a
$250 fine plus court costs and fees for a total of
$340.
Devann John Michael Pauling, 19, Grand
Marais, pled guilty March 12 to charges of minor
consumption of liquor on Dec. 23, the court
having dismissed an additional charge of underage drinking and driving. Sentenced to 30 days
in jail, stayed one year with supervised probation
and conditions, and ordered to pay a $300 fine
plus court costs and fees for a total of $390.

Lani Donnelle Rudnicki, 42, Thunder Bay, pled
guilty March 12 to speeding (80/55) on Feb. 19
and was fined $230.
Tara Sue Kartes, 32, Grand Marais, pled guilty
March 12 to charges of driving while intoxicated
(DWI) filed Feb. 17. Sentenced March 13 to 60
days in jail, stayed one year with supervised probation and conditions, and ordered to pay a $500
fine plus court costs and fees for a total of $615.
Grant E. Carlson, 52, Ontario, pled guilty March
15 to speeding (76/55) on Feb. 12, and was fined
$230.
Kerry M. Timko, 50, Ontario, pled guilty March
21 to speeding (72/55) on March 18, and was
fined $150.
Joel Kenneth Bonin, 20, Grand Marais, pled
guilty March 26 to charges of driving after revocation, no proof of insurance, drug possession
in a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia, and was ordered to pay fines and court
costs totaling $690.
Njazi Shabani, 40, Ontario, pled guilty March
26 to speeding (71/55) on March 18, and was
fined $150.
Mark David Thesen, 59, Ontario, pled guilty
March 27 to speeding (70/50) on March 18, and
was fined $160.
Daniel J. Evans, 50, Ontario, pled guilty March
27 to speeding (73/55) on March 13, and was
fined $150.
Annette M. Block-Valdivia, 47, Grand Marais,
pled guilty April 2 to charges of DWI filed Feb.
22. Sentenced to 60 days in jail, stayed one year
with supervised probation and conditions, and
ordered to pay a $500 fine plus court costs and
fees for a total of $615.

David Robert Carlson, 21, Grand Marais, pled
guilty March 12 to charges of DUI filed Jan. 18.
Sentenced April 2 to one year in jail, stayed two
years with supervised probation and conditions,
and ordered to pay a $500 fine plus court costs
and fees for a total of $615.
Thomas Patrick Gearin, 58, Lutsen, pled
guilty March 13 to charges of DUI filed Oct. 18.
Sentenced April 2 to one year in jail, stayed two
years with supervised probation and conditions,
and ordered to pay a $700 fine plus court costs
and fees for a total of $815.
Barry William Keim, 34, Mankato, pled guilty
April 2 to charges of DWI filed Jan. 15, the court
having dismissed additional charges of failure to
signal a turn and failure to dim headlights within
1,000 feet of oncoming vehicle. Sentenced to 60
days in jail, stayed one year with supervised probation and conditions, and ordered to pay a $500
fine plus court costs and fees for a total of $590.
Amber Dawn Miller, 24, Ontario, pled guilty
April 2 to speeding (76/55) on March 3, and was
fined $230.
John William Treacy, 26, Shakopee, pled guilty
April 2 to charges of DWI filed May 1, 2011, the
court having dismissed an additional charge of
driver’s license not in possession. Sentenced to
one year in jail, stayed two years with supervised
probation and conditions, and ordered to pay a
$700 fine plus court costs and fees for a total of
$790.
Ryan Andrew Wallace, 33, Ontario, pled guilty
April 2 to no Minnesota driver’s license on Jan.
28, and was fined $190.
