Mary Louise (Kielty) Mike passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 1, 2020. Mary was born on January 21, 1942.
As a child growing up in Moose Lake she developed a deep love of nature. After serving as Postmaster of the Grand Portage Post Office on the shores of her beloved Lake Superior she moved back to Barnum and opened the popular Mayflower Gardens. With her passion and knowledge she inspired customers, friends and neighbors with many lessons of nature, especially that gardening does not allow one to be mentally old because too many hopes and dreams are yet to be realized.
Mary was generous in all respects. She enjoyed sharing her joy and contentment in her flower gardening, backyard birding and her dogs, Fiona and Cena. She will be greatly missed by her family, caregivers and many friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Patricia Ellson. She is survived by her children, Tom Mike, Tim (Wanda) Mike, Michelle (Daniel) Russell and Kelly (Clint) Praslicka; her brother, James Kielty; her grandchildren Felicia, Grace, Courtney, Britney, Zach, Katana and Kamon; her great grandchildren Adelyn and Ayla; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary is also survived by her special Spirit Mother, Doris Blank.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the wonderful staff at Augustana for their loving, compassionate care. And, to Mary’s special friends Connie, Wendy and Dan and to all those who were so kindly involved, especially near the end of her incredible journey.
A memorial and celebration of Mary’s life will be scheduled at a later date; when the flowers are blooming, the birds are singing and when family and friends can once again gather together.
