Mary Liebsch

11/30/1926—4/17/2022

Mary Liebsch died peacefully in her residence at North Shore Health on

April 17, 2022. She had lived for several years at

North Shore Health and was involved in any and all activities. One of her favorite activities was

The Grand Portage Band, when they played for the tapping, smiling elders. She would dress up to the nines for the music and, at the end of the festival, started planning for the next month.

She loved that band!

Mary had a large T.V. in her room but seldom used it. She read books. Animal stories, mysteries, romance, Minnesota Outdoor and any other book she could get her hands on.

Another activity that she loved and looked forward to was visiting her beloved Ted at the Maple Hill cemetery. The activity department made sure

Mary was engaged, be it fall colors, lunch at the Hub, bingo, hangman, and any other fun stuff offered.

Mary was born in Iowa. She had three sisters, Christine, Dorothy, and Evelyn. She met Ted Liebsch in 1969 and was married in 1972. She graduated from nursing school and earned her R.N. degree. She served as the Assistant Director of Nurses at North Shore Hospital for many years. Ted and Mary owned the Sandgren Motel, later the Gladmanor Motel, and later Ted served as a contractor for UPS.

Mary and Ted enjoyed fishing a great deal. One evening Mary caught “the Big One!” She was ecstatic. When Ted removed the line from Mr. Northern, he threw the fish back into the lake. Mary was very upset. She did a picture of the monster and kept that on her wall at her home. Mary’s words about Ted releasing her fish were cryptic.

Family and friends would like to thank North Shore Health staff for all of the great times and daily care provided. A celebration of life will be announced for this summer. Mary leaves behind John McClure, friend Carolyn Seglem, Mark Uuskallio, nephew, Laurel Nortag, niece, Carly Uuskallio, grand niece, and Kelsey Uusckallio, grand niece.
