After a two-year absence due to COVID-19, the Education Foundation is bringing E.A.T.S., their annual fundraiser, back to the halls of ISD 166. This year, tickets for the event are $30, and as usual, only 125 tickets are available. Tickets can be purchased from any Education Foundation board member (Myron Bursheim, Bobbie Collins, Silviya Duclos, Gail Gieske, Ruthanne Hedstrom Vos, Autumn Hood, Marcie McIntire, John Oberholtzer, Nancy Seaton, Mark Shackleton, Emma Spoon, Ann Sullivan, and Destry Winant) or at the school’s main office. Tickets must be purchased in advance of the event.
So, you likely noticed a couple of new names on the list of those serving on the Board of Directors! Dave Hanson and Doug Sanders recently retired from the board, so Nancy Seaton and Bobbie Collins applied for the vacancies, and they have now joined the board. Nancy is serving as the Gunflint Trail representative. Most of our community recognize Nancy as co-owner of Hungry Jack Outfitters and as the individual providing leadership for the Gunflint Trail Scenic Byway Committee. She has served on many boards over the last three decades. Bobbie is taking on Doug Sanders’ role as treasurer, given her career in the accounting field. Bobbie currently is part of the Cook County Historical Society and helped out as treasurer for Empty Bowls.
So, the Education Foundation, with its new board members, is busy making arrangements with local restaurants and vendors to secure donated food and beverages to provide YOU a taste of great local cuisine at EATS. Currently, ten businesses are contributing food or beverages to EATS, besides the students in Tom Nalezny’s Culinary Arts classes! A list of food will be shared in an article published closer to the event.
In addition to sampling fabulous food on March 9, you have the chance to participate in the silent auction. Nearly one hundred items or gift certificates have been collected from local merchants already, as they contribute to this community event in their own unique way. The Education Foundation will give you a peek at a few of those silent auction items in a couple of weeks–just to entice you to attend!
Of course, the music is always enticing, as well! Currently the North Shore Swing Band plans to perform, along with a classical solo provided by one of the school’s seniors, Ben Obinger.
There is the possibility of an additional student performance, too.
Whether you come for food, the silent auction, or the entertainment, you know this year is special. Since the event has been absent for two years, the Education Foundation is looking to build back its bank account, so it can continue to provide extraordinary experiences and opportunities for all those students attending ISD 166! We know how fun it will be to be back at school with friends and neighbors, as well! Show support for the students by coming to EATS on March 9!
