Mark J. Buckman,
53, of Schroeder, died Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis after a brief illness.
He was born December 30, 1960 to Sylvester “Buck” and Marion (Christopherson) Buckman in Grand Marais. Mark was a lifelong resident of Schroeder and graduated from Cook County High School in 1979. He married Kathy Netland in 1988.
Mark was employed at Erie Mining until 1983 when he took a job at Lutsen Mountains, where he worked for 31 years. Mark held many positions through the years, most recently that of maintenance manager.
Mark was a member of the Superior Timberwolves Sportsmen’s Club and Zoar Lutheran Church. He enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing, vacations, spending time at the cabin, and especially time with his family. He was a loving and wonderful husband and father. He will be sadly missed by his family.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents; sister Carole Byholm; niece Brenda
Yarborough; great-nephew Bryan Crawford; and sister-in-law Janice Swenson.
He is survived by his wife Kathy and children Mark and Jenny of Tofte; brothers Robert “Bud” (Rhonda) and Larry (Cheryl) of Schroeder; many nieces and nephews; his mother-in-law Eileen Netland Hall; brothers- and sisters-in-law Andy Byholm, Sharon Ankrum, Daniel (Cathy) Netland, James (Dolly) Netland, Robin (Patti) Netland, Rosemary (Rex) Lewis, Alan (Melanie) Netland, Kenneth (Nancy) Netland, Cindy (Richard “Tex”) Donek, Steve (Shonna) Netland, and Mary (Chuck) VanDoren.
