As we spring forward, the month of March brings the fun of St. Patrick’s Day, and the season of Easter. St. Patty’s Day festivities will include some crafting fun, “Pot of Gold” bingo, Hilja’s Irish Happy Hour, and a special Irish lunch of corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day. The Grand Marais Lioness Club will also be here on St. Patrick’s Day to host their monthly social with special desserts and music at 3 p.m.
The residents will be busy again this year filling Easter eggs for the annual community Easter egg hunt to be held on March 31. This is a community service project that the elders participate in every year. It is always fun to see how many eggs we can get filled for the little ones, and to know they are helping to make this a joyous day for the children of the community!
After the eggs are filled, the elders will have some fun too! On March 27 at 2 p.m. there will be a “felted egg craft project” with Kay Rosenthal. We look forward to a fun afternoon of creating some unique Easter eggs, and visiting with Kay.
Everyone remembers how fun it was to color eggs for Easter as a youngster. The residents will get a chance to express their creativity and reminisce when we color eggs on March 30.
The monthly birthday party will be held on Wednesday, March 14 at 3 p.m. to honor Harriet Walsh and Lorraine Wipson. Cake and ice cream will be served along with piano classics by Doug Sanders.
An outing to the Senior Center for lunch is planned for March 22. It is always fun to visit with our friends there, and enjoy a delicious lunch.
There will be plenty of music this month too. Myron Bursheim brings his folk songs to the Care Center on Sunday afternoons, Susan Scherer with piano music on Wednesday afternoons, Harris Mills will be joining us on March 5 and 26, and Pastor Darin Blanck and friends will host a sing-a-long on March 12 at 2 p.m.
We welcome the Portage Band on March 31 at 6:30 p.m. for a delightful evening of country music. Family and friends are most welcome at any of our music events.
