Maintenance to the Schroeder Town Hall continues, with new screws replacing worn screws in the front door, new clips for the flagpole coming soon, and dead trees and brush removed from the grounds.
“There is a small crack in the front door but it isn’t bad enough to warrant replacing the door,” said Clerk Carol Tveekrem.
A new deed was signed for the Schroeder cemetery and the board changed one of the rules. As of now plastic flowers and silk flowers and any other thing that can be blown around will have to be removed by October 15. If the items aren’t removed by then the maintenance crew will remove them before winter sets in.
Supervisor Roger “Bill” McKeever said Floyd Johnson completed work on the cemetery road ditch and added the work will help the road from washing out after a heavy rain. Johnson installed two drainpipes surrounded by 2” to 4” rocks in the ditch to divert floodwaters.
Supervisor Ross Willson has looked into the necessary steps to install a new pavilion in the harbor park. But because of setback rules and regulations he isn’t finished yet and said he will give a final report to the board at an upcoming meeting.
Fire Department and Rescue Squad Chief Phil Bonin reported that his squad of volunteers has been very busy. The day before the meeting they turned out (with the Lutsen and Tofte squads) to put out a cabin fire in Lutsen and later that day they assisted a lady who had wiped out on her bicycle on the hiking/biking trail near Temperance River. It was the same spot a person had gotten hurt one month before on a bicycle and Bonin said some volunteers were looking at ways to improve safety on this part of the trail.
“We’ve been very busy this month,” Phil said.
Colleen Lamb gave the board old pictures and documents related to town board business that she had found in her grandparents’ home that she now owns. The board agreed to give them to the Schroeder Historical Society for preservation and thanked Lamb for her gift.
