All the way from New Zealand, the Kahurangi Maori Native Dance Company will be appearing at the Log Community Building in Grand Portage on Monday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m. This unique dance group will appear in Grand Portage for one night only.
The Kahurangi Maori Native Dance Company was founded in 1983 by Tama Huata of Hastings, New Zealand, who sought to create cultural, educational and employment opportunities for young Maori people in traditional performing arts.
The dance company is known for its high-energy performances telling tales of Pacific culture and adventure through dance and music in programs with exotic names such as Waka and Taonga. Their timeless stories date back as far as 1066 AD.
They have traveled and thrilled audiences in New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, China, Canada and all over the United States. Theyare stopping in Grand Portage en route to performances at the University of Northern Michigan and then on tour in California.
Everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be served and admission is free.
