The WDIO ABC 10/13 Storm Team had an additional member on staff on Thursday, July 8, 2010. Madysen McKeever, 11, daughter of Don and Tina McKeever of Schroeder, was the guest weather personality, sharing the highs and lows of the day and offering the weather prediction for the week to come.
Madysen’s great-aunt, Donna Lunke of Grand Marais, participated in a Kiwanis Club of Duluth auction last fall. When she saw the opportunity to be a guest weather personality, she thought it might be a fun gift for her niece.
Madysen agreed—but took a little time to work up the courage to appear on live television broadcast all over the Northland. In July, she felt she was ready, so she and her parents made the trek to Duluth, to the WDIO studio where she met news anchors Dennis Anderson and Sandy Drag.
“It was really exciting,” said her mom, Tina.
The WDIO team practiced with Madysen for about a half an hour before she was on-air. It went very well. “She enjoyed doing it,” said Tina. “I think I was more nervous than she was. She did great.”
Madysen told her parents and great-aunt that it was fun, but she is not interested in pursuing a career in meteorology at this time. She has some time to decide what her future career will be—she just graduated from Birch Grove Elementary in June and will be attending Cook County Middle School next year.
