How can we make drivers slow down when they race through downtown Lutsen?
That was the question on people’s minds when they attended the Lutsen annual meeting held March 8.
The current 40 mph zone near Lockport, Clearview and Arrowhead Cooperative works to slow traffic, but needs to be extended, said the voters.
After some discussion it was decided to authorize the town board to send a letter to Senator Tom Bakk who will seek to get a bill passed to extend the 40-mph speed limit area further east and west from the current locations. That extension would run one block east of Caribou Trail and one block west of Alta Mikana Road.
“Motorists, truck drivers, residents are experiencing dangerous situations because even though most drivers slow down with the digital signs, some do not and with more and more year-round traffic, this is a solution,” said Lutsen township Clerk Sharon Hexum-Platzer,
In other action the township voted to seek a Minnesota Department of Outdoor Recreation grant to rehabilitate and address Lutsen Ball Park and surrounding area needs. Hexum is writing the grant for the township.
Rae Piepho presented her desire to go back to in person paper ballot voting. Rae is looking into costs for voting venue and will present that to the town board at the next Tuesday’s regular board meeting.
