Lutsen man suffers fatal fall




Cook County Law Enforcement was called at 8:44 p.m. on December 7 to help locate a missing 73-year-old man. Stephen Palmquist of Mankato was not at his Cascade Beach Road home as expected. Palmquist was found deceased shortly after the search began.

Concern regarding Palmquist’s whereabouts were raised when it was discovered that his dog was tied up outside the house and his vehicle was parked at his residence. Cook County Search and Rescue was paged and Cook County Sheriff Deputies began a search of the area. At 9:20 p.m., deputies located Palmquist’s body on the rocky shoreline. He had apparently fallen about 20 feet.

Sheriff deputies and members of Cook County Search and Rescue and Lutsen Fire Department recovered his body at 10:22 p.m. and was transported to the Cook County North Shore Hospital.

Cook County Law Enforcement said no foul play is suspected.
