On Wednesday, February 11 at the Lutsen Evangelical Lutheran Church, 85 people, most of them international students, enjoyed the 5th Annual “Cook For Your Country” dinner. Students in Cook County on work visas prepared dishes that are popular in their own countries. Countries represented were: Chile, Peru, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Philippines, Poland, Mexico, Sweden, and Kazakhstan.

A few weeks before, the Lutsen congregation prepared a dinner to welcome students to the North Shore. Then it was their turn.

Over three days – depending on their work schedules—our visitors prepared 19 individual main dishes, salads, and desserts to share with the community. Before the meal each student who cooked introduced their dish and why they chose it.

The preparation before and the evening dinner offered a fun and delicious opportunity where everyone got to experience different cultural cuisines. Students reconnected with others from their home countries and talked and laughed with Minnesotans. Engaging with these young people while they prepared and shared their dishes is one of the highlights of our winter season at Lutsen Church, as community members will agree!

Thank you to all who joined us.
