Even if you don’t like rummage sales, you have been hard-pressed not to like this one. There was seemingly something for everyone.
Held once again on the grounds of the Lutsen Evangelical Lutheran Church, the 15th annual Lutsen community rummage and handmade gift sale held on Saturday, July 9, was a smashing success.
There were so many items donated by people it was hard to fathom what the count was. And everything for sale was in good, useable shape.
A large crowd gathered before the 9 a.m. opening, and items went quick once folks were let into the shop.
For sale at excellent prices were housewares, linens, lawn furniture, tables, chairs, couches, coffee tables, lamps, drawers, hand tools and power tools, lawn chairs, a paddle boat, canoes, a snowmobile, woodstove, chainsaw, and many, many more items to pick from.
Chief organizer Sharon Hexum Platzer said the sold items brought in about $12,500, with 20 percent going to Care Partners, 20 percent to community/ county youth programs, and 60 percent to other church projects.
“What is so amazing is the number of folks who donated and the 36 workers from our community who showed up to work totaling about 500 hours,” said Sharon, adding, “Many of whom came each of the four days to set up and on the sale day, stayed to sell, greet neighbors and visitors as well as stayed to clean up.”
Items that weren’t sold were given to other non-profits in the area.
“The excess merchandise was taken by First and Second, Oddz & Endz, and a new place in Schroeder,” Sharon said. “The remaining items will go to the Thrift Store in Grand Marais and Goodwill in Two Harbors.
“As ever, we are grateful for the contributions of two boats, two canoes, a paddle boat, a snowblower and a snowmobile. Those big items gather interest and bring new folks in, but then they found treasurers beyond that.”
