The 11th annual tour on the shore of Lundie inspired vacation homes and cabins was held July 11. This fundraiser, sponsored by Schroeder Area Historical Society of the Cross River Heritage Center, gave a truly eye popping appreciation of a variety of architecture.
“Going North to the Cabin” gave over 80 people a whole new perspective as they looked in amazement at styles that use skillful and creative designs to fit into the surroundings.
Six owners used their creativity in a broad scale. One owner used old bleachers from a high school, crafted into kitchen cabinets. A retired architect said he situated his cabin to enjoy the ever changing view of the lake. Making use of a walking bridge, one enters a cabin to view the lake through a bank of artfully placed windows.
Another architect purchased land many years ago and spent time camping on the property before eventually designing a richly detailed vacation home.
A group of cabin owners share a communal outdoor oven for pizza and bread baking. Walking down a pebble path tour participants saw how a owner built a small one room cabin for the grandchildren and grandpa to enjoy the lake close up.
The tour ends at a lovely Lundie style cabin for a picnic and conversation. And wouldn’t you know there is even a restored original outhouse.
The extensive landscaping and vast views of the Sawtooth Mountains and Lake Superior is a great way to wind down.
These “Up North” cabins have touches of restored Lundie style legacy and reflect much thoughtfulness. It is a Minnesota tradition to spend lazy summer days relaxing at the cabin….U Betcha!
