Lunafest, a traveling film festival that spotlights the work of a diverse array of talented women filmmakers, will be the featured event 7 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Arrowhead Center for the Arts.

Lunafest is a program of nine short films all by, for and about women. The films celebrate the unique, touching and inspirational roles of women in local, national and international communities.

All of the proceeds from the events are donated to charity. The Cook County event will benefit the Breast Cancer Fund and the Violence Prevention Center.

The Lunafest story was established in 2000 by Luna, the makers of the Whole Nutrition Bar for Women. Lunafest aims to connect women, their stories and their causes through film. Equally important, Lunafest can be used as a “fundraiser in a box,” helping hosts raise money for their own nonprofits. Lunafest has grown from a single annual event to a coast-to-coast force with more than 150 North American screenings each season. To date, 92 filmmakers have been featured, nearly $1.2 million has been raised, and thousands of attendees have come away moved, entertained and inspired.

Tickets are $7 for students, $10 general, and $20 per family. For more information call (218) 387-1262.
